PRESS RELEASE

06 February 2006

Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool

Now for some good news, the Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool situated in Jefferies Avenue Stratton celebrates 26 years of providing thermal water therapy to the disabled, whether that disability is temporary or permanent.

Back in 1979 the pool facility was used by 7 adult disabled groups, 8 schools with special needs units and 5,000 referral sessions for patients referred by doctors and hospitals. Today the pool handles 29 adult groups, 15 schools and 35,000 referral sessions annually. The catchment area although predominately North Wiltshire also caters for patients from as far a field as Oxford, Bristol and Bath.

As part of the 25th Anniversary Appeal several projects were identified to improve and modernise parts of the service provided, the latest project of a new hot spa facility has just been completed and will officially be opened by the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, David Margesson at the pool in Jefferies Avenue on Friday 10th February 2006 at 12-00 for 12-30pm.

This project has been made possible by the generosity of The Federation of Master Builders South West Region Charitable Fund who provided the majority of the funding for this £53,000 project, The Herbert & Peter Blagrave Charitable Trust & The Friends of Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool also made sizeable contributions.

The new spa will enhance the experience of using the pool for all users and help with relaxation and rehabilitation work undertaken at the pool.

A group from the Forget me Not Project will be at the pool to officially “christen” the spa when it is declared open by the High Sheriff.

These ladies just love to give away money!
